Resort Ready ’13 – Essie In the Cab-ana and First Timer Swatches & Review

Summer is getting closer! Just in time, Essie brings us their newest Resort Collection. The 2013 Resort Collection consists of four shades: Come Here! (red-orange); First Timer (bright, mint-leaning green); In the Cab-ana (bright blue); and Under Where? (light purple). I feel like I have oodles of reds and purples, so I passed on Come Here! and Under Where? but bought In the Cab-ana and First Timer.

In the Cab-ana is a bright sky blue cream. I’ve heard others describe it as a “bright but dusty” shade. First Timer is a bright green cream. The best way I can think to describe this shade is if kelly green and mint green had a love child – it falls somewhere in between. The formula on both of these shades was great. It applied smoothly and was opaque in two coats. It also had great lasting power when worn with a top coat. I decided to wear In the Cab-ana with First Timer as an accent nail for a fun here-comes-summer mani. Please excuse the wobbly cuticles and odd spot on the ring finger – I was trying to catch a stink bug that got past my window screen with my non-painted right hand, but I’m a clutz. Suffice it to say, I almost biffed it and caught myself with my left hand. One wonky finger isn’t too bad in my book in exchange for a saved face…right? Sure. Click to enlarge (or maybe don’t, as you’ll get a close-up of my patched paint job).

I’m glad I bought these! I don’t have many blues or greens in my collection, and these two are bright, fun, summery shades that I know I’ll end up wearing. The formula and lasting power are added bonuses. You can purchase Essie polish for $8 each online, at mass cosmetic retailers like Walmart, and at major beauty retailers like Ulta. The Resort Collection is also available as a quad of mini bottles, which is a great way to sample every color without the commitment of a full-size bottle!

What do you think of this year’s Resort Collection – hit or miss? How about my new watermarking font?

  1. They don’t wow me, but I like them nonetheless :-) I think I like the green one best.

Oh and your new font gets my stamp of approval ;-)

    • I know what you mean. I like the whole resort collection but was kind of like “….oh. nice” when it was release; it didn’t blow me away. Haha, thanks! :) I think (hope?) it’s easier to read.
